Aria Dental - How I Plan To Get A Whiter Smile!

My husband @guccisimo and I are somewhat new to the Coal Harbour area and therefore we were looking for a great local dentist to keep our smiles white and healthy. We decided to give Dr. Mehio a try as we had received a couple of pamphlets from Aria Dental in the mail and my best friend had recently visited them too.

My first reactions when I walked in the clinic for the first time included amazement and bliss. The folks at Aria Dental really paid attention to every detail in terms of design and client comfort. They have designed a truly beautiful place where patients can go to get healthier teeth.

Sara, the receptionist, is extremely friendly and knowledgeable and she will make sure you are fully aware of any hidden costs or charges before they go ahead with any procedures. She will also take care of any insurance claims - mine were sent electronically and therefore there were not upfront costs. Also, I was very impressed with being able to fill out my medical history in an electronic tablet instead of paper - very environmentally friendly and high-tech!

Dr. Mehio was also very friendly and approachable and he made sure to ask me lots of questions before getting started with my check-up. Aria Dental has state of the art equipment and they are able to provide procedures that are on high-demand nowadays like Invisalign and Zoom whitening.

I am looking forward to taking advantage of their teeth whitening promo for new patients and maybe get some Invisalign done at the beginning of next year. Like Sara said... it's all about Hollywood smiles nowadays :)

If you are looking for a new dentist in the downtown core give Aria Dental a try!

BlackBerry Vs. iPhone - Which One Will My Thumbs Play With?

It all started a little over four years ago when the iPhone was not yet available in Canada. I had only seen iPhones through some friends who managed to bring them across the border and then got them unlocked at a local Chinese market. Back then, the iPhone was something to be adored and admired. Everyone in Canada wanted one but only a few could have it. In 2006 I was rocking a Sony Ericsson T610 and even though it was a solid phone it seemed quite obsolete when compared to the smart-phones everyone was starting to talk about.

Nobody knew exactly whether the iPhone was ever going to be officially available in Canada and after a year and a half of waiting for it I ended up cheating on my dream to own one and decided to get a pink BlackBerry Pearl instead. I wanted to browse the internet on my mobile device and use things like Facebook and MySpace and the Pearl was certainly good enough to do so.

I must admit that even though I was quite disappointed for bot being an iPhone owner, the BlackBerry Pearl really started to grow on me. Most of my friends also started to get BlackBerries and therefore my BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) addiction really took off. Through BBM I could send PIN messages to my friends all over the world without being charged for SMS fees. Best part about it is that when you send a message through BBM it not only tells you if it was delivered but ALSO if it was read. I personally love that feature as I have scatter-brained friends who sometimes fail to respond to text messages for hours (not naming anyone here haha).

It all was blissful until only a few months later the news I had been waiting for finally hit my ears... the iPhone was finally going to be available in Canada through Rogers and FIDO...and guess what? My husband was getting one!! You may wonder why I could not get one too and be done with this story... Well, do you remember the BlackBerry Pearl I was falling in love with? Yeah... that sucker came with a 3 year contract that I would have to pay hefty fees to break and Telus (my current provider) did not offer the iPhone at the time.

My husband had been waiting for the iPhone for quite a while too but not being an anxious freak like me he didn't cancel his FIDO plan like I did and therefore he could simply upgrade to the iPhone on launch date. At that point I just gave up on the idea of getting an iPhone for a while and decided to fully commit to my BlackBerry. That's when I discovered Crackberry.com - a paradise for us BlackBerry users.

A couple of years later BlackBerry released their first-ever touch-screen device - the BlackBerry Storm. This device was CDMA and therefore was going to be offered through Telus. I was happy to upgrade to the Storm as it was like having the best of both worlds, the sexy touch-screen with all the well know iPhone apps PLUS BBM and all the things I love about BlackBerry.

Even though the 1st generation Storm had its design and manufacturing issues (dust bunnies decided to make a home under my screen), it fit my lifestyle quite well overall. Some of the issues with the BlackBerry Storm 9530 were corrected about a year later when the Storm 2 or BlackBerry 9550 came out and therefore it became my new and current device. Sure, the Storm 9550 still has some hiccups but it works great 90% of the time.

BlackBerry Storm 9550

Thanks to websites like TiPB, we all know that the new iPhone HD/4G is about to be announced by Steve Jobs at the World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC 2010) with a keynote address Monday, June 7, at 9am. Some of the new anticipated features include:

  • Front-facing camera
  • Bigger rear-facing camera
  • Camera flash
  • Secondary mic
  • Removable battery
  • MicroSIM
  • Ceramic/Glass Back

Now, this is where my dilemma starts. Do I keep my Storm 9550 and wait for BlackBerry 6 OS  to be released (see video below) or do I finally make the switch to the iPhone HD? I would love to get your input on this. Please feel free to leave a comment.

GUU - My 20 Minute Trip To Japan [Restaurant Review]

Yesterday I decided to visit GUU Izakaya for the first time. I live in downtown Vancouver and therefore I always saw big lineups of people waiting outside of their restaurants as I walked by. I had heard great things about this traditional Japanese tapas restaurant but I had never actually ventured in to try it. My friends and I decided to go to the Thurlow Street location but there are various ones to choose from.

I will start my review by saying that Japanese people are a lot like us Mexicans - we are both loud, friendly, and very welcoming. As we waited outside for our table, the hostess kept shouting (in a friendly way) at the customers who entered the restaurant in order to welcome them. It was almost as if they were old friends who hadn't seen each other for a decade or two - personally, I think this was a nice touch but others may disagree.

About twenty minutes later we were given a nice table for four with cute little Japanese-style benches. None of us had been to GUU before so we asked our waitress for some suggestions - she was extremely friendly and helpful and she never made us feel like outsiders for not speaking their language (a huge pet peeve of mine).

We decided to order the following:
    • Negitoro - chopped tuna sashimi with green onion. Nori seaweed on the side - (OUTSTANDING - I may be a bit biased though as I am a huge Negitoro fan)
    • Misomayo - grilled black cod with miso and mayo - very tasty
    • Ebimayo - deep fried shrimp mixed with mayonnaise on potato & spicy cod roe "gratin" - this was probably my favourite hot dish
    • Hanpen - puffed fish cake - I really enjoyed these but my friends were a bit discouraged by the texture of the fish.
    • Karaage - deep fried chicken with original tartar sauce - this one is a MUST - it was delicious!
    • Fried rice - very tasty - seasoned with kimchi
Another advantage of dining at GUU is that their prices are very reasonable. This allows your party to try various dishes per visit in order to slowly determine what your favourites ones are.

I would highly recommend going to one of the many GUU restaurants if you are on the hunt for a fun and relaxed atmosphere along with some yummy Japanese tapas.

    How SocialSpark Gets Everyone Talking

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

Yesterday I made the conscious decision to further promote my blog in order to get more readers and followers. I really enjoy the art of writing and as such I believe that blogs are a very effective medium of communication for sharing ideas and knowledge with people from all different walks of life.

In my search for tools to promote my blog I was introduced to SocialSpark by my dear friend Navjot - I must confess that until that moment I was not familiar with SocialSpark or their services. However, my eagerness to learn pushed me to join them almost immediately after finding out what they were all about.

The sign up process was very straight-forward and the overall layout of their website is extremely user-friendly and cheerful. To summarize, they ask you some questions about the nature of your blog, the topics you like to blog about, and also a bit about yourself in order to get the full picture.

For those of you who are not familiar with SocialSpark either, what they provide is a service that basically puts together the efforts of bloggers and advertisers in order to allow both of them to work towards a common goal: exposure. In other words, advertisers are able to get their products/services reviewed by bloggers and in turn bloggers can get some revenue and further promotion. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal huh? Well, it is!

I will definitely keep you posted on my progress but If you own a blog and would like to learn more about services like these make sure to click on some of the links below.

Blast From The Past: Ads That Just Don't Work Anymore

As humans we have a tendency to believe that our current behaviours and beliefs are stable and that as such they won't differ much from those that will be part of our lives twenty or thirty years from now. As portrayed by the pictures below, we couldn't be more wrong.

Times have changed and with them our ideologies and expectations have shifted. What once was widely accepted and common is now seen as inconceivable and rare. When I look at these illustrations today I can't help but wonder what we will think of our current lifestyle three or four decades from now.

It is evident that one of the main goals of the human race is to evolve and to reinvent itself and for those reasons I am sure that some of our current practices won't be around in the future... but that will those be? Just something to think about. Enjoy.

Now THIS I would have thoroughly enjoyed! Where can I get one of these?

    The Power Of Fruit

I was forwarded this article at work yesterday and since we all go through our ups and downs with our health I thought it would be a good idea to post it here. I have recently discovered that our bodies can heal themselves if we give them a chance and this is another great example of that. I hope you enjoy it:

Dr. Oz on Eating Fruit - GOOD ADVICE FOR EVERYBODY. . .

    EATING FRUIT

    This is informative!

We all think eating fruit means just buying fruit, cutting it up and popping it into our mouths. It's not that easy. It's important to know how and when to eat fruit.

What's the correct way to eat fruit?

IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUIT AFTER A MEAL!  FRUIT SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.

Eating fruit like that plays a major role in detoxifying your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.

FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD. Let's say you eat two slices of bread, then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it's prevented from doing so.

In the meantime, the whole meal rots and ferments, and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach, and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil.
Eat your fruit on an empty stomach, or before your meal! You've heard people complain: Every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach bloats, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet, etc. This will not happen if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. Fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas. Hence, you bloat!

There's no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic, because all fruit becomes alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter. If you have mastered the correct way of eating fruit, you have the Secret of Beauty, Longevity, Health, Energy, Happiness and normal weight.
When you need to drink fruit juice drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT the concentrated juice from the cans. Don't drink juice that has been heated. Don't eat cooked fruit; you don't get the nutrients at all. You get only the taste. Cooking destroys all of the vitamins.

Eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a 3-day fruit-fast to cleanse your body. Eat fruit and drink fruit juice for just 3 days, and you will be surprised when your friends say how radiant you look!

KIWI: Tiny but mighty, and a good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E and fibre. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange!

AN APPLE a day keeps the doctor away? Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants and flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C, thereby helping to lower the risk of colon cancer, heart attack and stroke.

STRAWBERRY: Protective Fruit. Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits and protect the body from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.

EATING 2 - 4 ORANGES a day may help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent and dissolve kidney stones, and reduce the risk of colon cancer.

WATERMELON: Coolest thirst quencher. Composed of  92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. Also a key source of lycopene, the cancer-fighting oxidant. Also found in watermelon: Vitamin C and Potassium.

GUAVA & PAPAYA: Top awards for vitamin C. They are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene, good for your eyes.

Drinking Cold water after a meal = Cancer! Can you believe this? For those who like to drink cold water, this applies to you. It's nice to have a cold drink after a meal, however, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you've just consumed, which slows digestion. Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

A serious note about heart attacks. HEART ATTACK PROCEDURE Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting. Be aware of intense pain in the jaw. You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack. Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms. Sixty percent of people who have a heart attack while they're asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Be careful, and be aware. The more we know, the better our chance to survive.

    Who doesn't love free music?

I really love living in these modern times where new artists can take advantage of social media sites and fan to fan marketing to promote their material. Music is a crucial part of my life and as such I'm always on the hunt for new beats that please my ears.

Over the last few days I came across a new artist who allows for you to download his entire CD for free - in return just asking for you to his music amongst your friends and social circles. The name is Simon Curtis, the album is 8bit Heart, and the sound is an electro pop that will make you want to dance as you commute on the bus or drive in your BMW.

In my opinion Simon has the whole package: the intriguing geeky-chic look, the androgynous voice, and the great electro beats. Two thumbs up!

I hope you enjoy his album as much as I have... and remember... return the favour by spreading the word about him if you are so inclined.
